Solutions

A language training solution perfectly adapted to your needs and objectives

[Aptitude scale]

We know from experience that it is not easy to
find an English language training solution that is
perfectly adapted to your objectives and constraints.
This particularly means taking into account the diverse
needs of all those concerned: the company, the employees
being trained and their line managers.

How do you reconcile them?
How do you choose amongst the different training solutions to find the one that suits you best?
How do you fit the time for this training into your colleagues' often already-overflowing diaries?
How do you keep track of their progress?

YES offers a wide range of solutions specifically tailored to your priorities and needs.

Audit of needs

The low-down on the language training challenges

m11

Some colleagues want to gear up their English language proficiency. Or the reason may be an express request from their line manager or a training initiative decided by the management. Before choosing the solutions that best suit you, our advice would be to carry out an audit of your needs and constraints.

To each their objective

Launching an English-language training programme is one thing. But you also need to ensure that the constraints are compatible with the pace of the company and of the Learner. This is why we suggest you cross-reference the points of view of the different parties concerned.

Heads of Training

Their objective: to optimise their budget and measure the return on investment for the company.

Learners

Their objective: to acquire new skills in order to be more effective in the workplace and advance their career.

Line managers

Their objective: to know when they will be able to entrust their colleague with new responsibilities linked to his or her English language proficiency.

In what circumstances does the Learner need to communicate in English?

To define the training parameters, we take responsibility for consulting the various stakeholders, via a detailed questionnaire of their reasons and the context of the request.

We then ask the Learner to fill in a needs analysis questionnaire. This tool enables us to assess their use of English within the company. Do they often work in this language? In what kind of situation? Do they host visits from international partners? Negotiate business transactions over the telephone? Make presentations outside the company?

Once the training context has been established, we then move on to assessing the English language proficiency of the Learner.

The assessment test [Solutions > Assessment]

Assessment test

What is your starting level and which level are you looking to reach?

Until now, in order to assess the English language proficiency of a candidate or colleague, we used to refer to the TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication).

We preferred to develop an innovative test based on the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECR), a reference system developed by the Council of Europe aimed at harmonising the international use of English.

Aptitude scale [Method > Proficiency levels]

We call it the Language Skills Aptitude Test (LSAT). To date, it is one of the most comprehensive tests on the market. It takes into account the four competencies needed for English language proficiency: reading and listening comprehension and spoken and written English.

Once the needs analysis has been completed [Audit], we ask the Learner to take the LSAT to precisely identify the level of their English language proficiency. The test takes place in three parts.

m12

Written Test

This part enables the written skills of the Learner to be assessed to help us determine their mastery of vocabulary and grammar.

m12b

iTest

The aim of this dynamic test is to determine the upper limits of the Learner's proficiency. For this, the YES software searches a database of 500 questions.

m12c

Speaking Test

This involves an everyday telephone conversation with a YES Trainer. This exercise enables the assessment of the spoken proficiency of the Learner.

Debriefing after the test

The test results are then analysed by a YES Senior Trainer. They will enable the Learner to be positioned on the CECR aptitude scale and the setting on this same scale of the level to be reached.

YES help and support

A dedicated contact throughout the training

At YES, we see each training contract as a project in its own right. So we give it a project head: the Project Manager (PM). For the duration of the contract, the PM is assisted by an Account Manager (RAM), responsible for looking after the day-to-day needs of the Learners.

The Project Manager, your dedicated contact

The PM makes sure that the project goes according to plan (learning, technologies, financial aspects). He/she is the dedicated point of contract for the head of training and the role evolves as the curriculum unfolds.

Upstream of the training He/she helps the company design its training plan. He/she gets involved in the administration, notably on the aspects concerning the [Financing]. He/she organises the assessments [Assessment] and helps to define the priority populations. He/she facilities the handling of the training tools.

During the training He/she is in direct touch with the head of training, and is always ready to answer any questions.

Downstream of the training He/she looks after the post-training administration (certificates, attendance sheets, etc.), the debriefings with Learners and carries out an overall evaluation of the service.

The RAM, pivotal in the training

The RAM is the dedicated contact point for the Learner and the YES Trainers. It is his or her job to ensure that the training goes according to plan on a day-to-day basis (supply of training materials, monitoring of training, planning, adjustments). He/she puts in place the development tools and those structuring the client servicing and establishes the services procedures.

Online support

In the event of any difficulties, you can go to the SUPPORT page at YOU&YES LMS [Interface]. There you will find a number of ways to resolve them. You can:

Method

Our innovative training programmes
ensure your colleagues remain highly motivated

In order to make progress in English, the important thing is to be obliged to understand and make yourself understood. Starting from this given, we have developed a pedagogical approach based on the acquisition of contextual skills which can be used in everyday professional situations. The aim is to be at ease in any environment: at the airport, in the office, in front of the coffee machine, negotiating a business deal.

Motivation is also key to success. In order to keep motivation levels high as the weeks progress, YES has developed:

Exclusive, contemporary content. More than 300 hours of video sequences, 200 hours of e-Learning, 1,000 hours of audio exercises accessible via an ergonomic interface.

Multiaxial stimulus of the learning muscle. In order to optimise the memory mechanisms, we have offers combining several different types of tools.

Significant user flexibility. Thanks to our internet platform, your colleagues can access their training programme whenever they want.

The YES pedagogical approach

An approach in phase with the needs and pace of corporate life

How do you learn English in a tranquil fashion within the context of an often hectic professional world which is subject to the pressures of a globalised economy? Day after day this question guided us in the creation of a pedagogical approach in phase with the expectations and constraints of companies and their employees.

Speaking English is one thing, but being able to work in English is quite another. Starting from this point, YES has created a learning method focused on English language proficiency in professional situations.

To develop this method, we turned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) [Proficiency levels]. This tool, developed under the aegis of the European Council, recommends an overall approach to language by fragment based on a transparent proficiency scale which is recognised at international level.

Our pedagogical approach can be resumed in a few principles:

A method based on competencies

Speaking English in a professional situation is above all being able to understand and make oneself understood in a certain number of clearly identified situations. Our method stages everyday scenarios through the use of a range of different training tools.

A multiaxial stimulus of the language learning muscle

Learning a language is like practicing a sport: in order to improve you need to train regularly and alternate exercises. This is the principle on which our YES Blended offers are based. [Training]. In combining several tools (tuition with a YES Trainer, e-learning, microlearning; etc.), we maximise cognitive ability and memory capacity.

The learning experience

method pedagogy

Exclusive, contemporary content

Our pedagogical teams have produced original and high-quality digital content [Exercises]. Furthermore, they regularly enrich the content as a function of technological and pedagogical innovation.

If we take such trouble with our content it is because we know that it fuels motivation levels. We do all we can to ensure that effort put into learning is associated with the idea of pleasure.

Enjoy the experience!

Very user friendly

We are all too aware of professional time constaints and the need for Learners autonomy. This is why, at YES, learners can manage their training via YOU&YES LMS [Interface]. Thanks to this web platform, in a contemporary and ergonomic design, they can both access the multimedia content and book a face to face, telephone or virtual training session with a YES Trainer.

The YES proficiency levels

6 levels to calibrate your progress

YES's pedagogical approach is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This international reference system offers, notably, a proficiency scale which enables the Learner's starting level to be established and a learning target to be determined based on the level of language ability (please see below).

The CEFR proficiency scale

It is divided into 3 categories A, B and C corresponding to beginner, independent and expert, and 6 levels of proficiency (please see the table below).

CEFRTOEICTOEFL
C2: Expert910+276+
C1: Proficiency701-910236-275

B1: Efficiency381-540126-175
A2: Essentials246-38096-125
A1: BasicsTOEIC Bridge
Description of the proficiency levels
  • C2: Expert
    Comprehension and fluidity of expression. The learner can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. He/she can: reconstruct facts and arguments from different written and spoken sources and summarise them in a coherent manner; express herself/himself spontaneously and precisely; differentiate nuances of meaning with respect to complex subjects.
  • C1: Proficiency
    Good mastery, spontaneous, fluent expression. The learner can understand long and demanding texts, and recognise implicit meaning. He/she can: express himself/herself spontaneously without having to search for words; use the language in an effective manner for personal and professional purposes; express himself/herself on complex subjects in a clear and structured way; show controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
  • B2: Autonomy
    Everyday understanding and ability to converse: express an opinion, argue a case. The learner can understand the main ideas in a complex text on a concrete or abstract topic, including a technical discussion in his/her field of specialisation. He/she can: communicate with a degree of fluency such as in a conversation with a native speaker involving no strain for either party; express himself/herself in a clear and detailed manner on numerous subjects; explain a viewpoint on a current topical issue; outline the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • B1: Efficiency
    Beginning of autonomy: able to get by, express his/her opinion. The learner can understand the key points of a conversation when simple language is used and if it involves familiar topics (work, school, leisure activities, etc.). He/she can: deal with most situations encountered when travelling in an area where the language is spoken; produce a simple and coherent discourse on topics which are familar or of personal interest; describe events, experiences, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly outline his/her reasons.
  • A2: Essentials
    Description, simple conversations. The learner can understand sentences and frequently-used expressions related to basic areas (personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). He/she can: communicate in simple tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters; describe in simple terms his/her training, immediate environment and talk about familiar matters or those which correspond with immediate needs.
  • A1: Basics
    Simple questions, familiar environment. The learner can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs. He/she can: introduce himself and others; ask and answer questions about themselves and others (where they live, people he/she knows, his/her belongings, etc.); interact in a simple way if the other person talks slowly and clearly.

YES has refined this scale by subdividing it into 14 levels of proficiency:
A1, A1+, A2, A2+, A2++, B1, B1+, B1++, B2, B2+, B2++, C1, C1+, C2.

The CEFR: a recognised reference framework

YES has chosen to base its pedagogical approach on a solid reference framework: the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Devised by the Council of Europe, the CEFR provides a clear conceptual foundation for the mutual recognition of language qualifications. It thus contributes to facilitating professional mobility.

The CEFR - and this is its great strength - is based on the precise analysis of linguistic aptitude. At each level, it involves transverse skills - which is to say not directly linked to the technical aspects of a profession but which are essential to the functioning of an organisation.

Within this term we generally regroup the following points:
Relationship know-how: communication, team work, the ability to cooperate with others, customer orientation, sense of service, etc.
Corporate know-how: autonomy and initiative, contribution to progress, etc.
Corporate processes: use of the information system, respect of the quality control system, management procedures, etc.

The management platform (YOU&YES LMS)

A management tool for the Learner and for the head of training

Managing your time, doing the online exercises, checking your scores... Today all this can be done via a management and monitoring LMS platform (Learning Management System).

We wanted a solution enabling us to simultaneously manage the pedagogical content, the monitoring tools and the organisation of the sessions with our YES Trainers. Since none of the interfaces on the market were exactly what we were looking for, we developed our own. You can access it via a YES Pass from our website.

The advantage of owning the source codes is that we can constantly upgrade our platform as a function of our new projects and, of course, your requests.

An ergonomic interface in an contemporary design

m23a_en

We wanted the YOU&YES LMS to be simple, practical and elegant. The screens are clear, the information easy to read and the functions intuitive. We are aware of the important role ergonomics and design have to play in maintaining high Learner motivation week after week.

Adapted functionalities

In addition to e-learning exercises, the YOU&YES LMS enables the Learner to manage their training. They can check their programme whenever it suits them, book a session with a YES Trainer or access the Resource Centre (please see below). HR managers can ensure that the programme is going according to plan thanks to the HR Tools [Tools].

m23b_en

With the YOU&YES LMS, the Learner can:

> Access the e-Learning and Microlearning exercises online;
> Measure his/her progress towards the target proficiency level;
> Plan his/her sessions with the YES Trainer (face to face or telephone);
> Consult his/her scores in the assessments and reports of the YES Trainers;

Many other functionalities enable the Learner to seamlessly manage his training.

Video series

Everyday situations acted by professional actors

In order to create the video sequences available on our LMS, we created our own sitcom using professional production facilities.

The action takes place in a virtual company - Dubois Corporation - situated in a 3D environment [YES City]. We have created characters (employees, customers, suppliers, etc.) in the Dubois Corp. We follow them from season to season, episode to episode.

To exploit the pedagogical potential of this tool, we have scripted the main situations you might encounter in professional and, more generally, everyday life. We then had them acted out by thirty or so actors of all backgrounds, speaking English with different accents. Just like in real life.

At the end of the day, we filmed more than 300 videos each lasting around 5 minutes, or the equivalent of six feature films!

From story-board to editing, we relate how we created this exclusive content, which is unparalleled in the market. A behind the scenes look at filming [Making of].

The YES Trainers [Method > Trainers]

The YES Trainers

Trainers coming from different countries,
all with professional qualifications and passionate about education

The YES Trainers are our ambassadors. Our trainers are not just teachers. They make it their mission to embody our pedagogical approach. That is why we take recruitment very seriously.

They have very diverse backgrounds: multi-cultural, international studies, knowledge of the further education and corporate worlds...

One more thing in common: they have all learned at least one foreign language and are able to put themselves in the shoes of the Learner.

Lastly, they are all committed to our team, and enthusiastically promote the YES pedagogical approach.

You get a chance to appreciate their human qualities and level of professionalism when you opt for our face to face, telephone training or virtual classes.

What are the recruitment criteria to become
a YES Trainer?

The response from Cormac O'Keeffe, Chief Learning Officer.

Consult our job opportunities [Company > Recruitment]

We are particularly demanding when it comes to recruitment. Our trainers fulfil all the following criteria:

English is their main language. Coming from different nations (China, Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland, South Africa...), they were all born in English-speaking countries;

They are fully qualified teachers with backgrounds either in general education or English as a foreign language;

They all have some business experience and thus know the needs and constraints of our clients;

They are passionate about education which they see as their vocation.

They are appraised every year and must achieve good results in order to retain their teaching certification with YES.

YES only employs freelance trainers when they bring specific skills to specialist seminars (of a legal or technical nature, for example).

The company

A multicultural team at the service of a new English language training concept

Americans, Australians, Danes, Greeks, Mediterraneans... The YES team is made up of men and women from different cultures with extensive international experience.

The YES concept

An innovative method which has been tried and tested in English language training for businesses

Between text book English and specialised professional English, we felt there was room for a rigorous, pragmatic method aimed at the corporate sector. Companies know that, in our increasingly globalised world, a high level of English language proficiency has become indispensable in a growing number of functions.

How do you come up with an innovative offer, in phase with the constraints of both companies (cost, follow-up, effectiveness) and employees (time, interest, results)? That is the question answered by Cormac O'Keeffe, Chief Learning Officer.

Brilliant explanation from Cormac summarizing the concept in an few pithy words. Cormac O'Keeffe, Chief Learning Officer

In order to facilitate access to the language and keep learners motivated, we offer a wide range of pedagogical tools [Tools], ranging from traditional face to face tuition to web 2.0 media: 3D environments, videos, audio files, online exercises, customised interfaces...

Our role models

Apple©, the sailing boat which takes on the ocean-going liners

We admit to having a profound admiration for Apple©. For us, Apple© is the small sailing boat which is taking on the big liners, the outsider constantly reinventing its approach.

Our takeaway from Apple©:
A culture of creativity. At Apple©, everyone works like crazy to find an innovation which will become a killer application;
Premium products. Mac©, iPod©, iPhone©: Apple© products are the stuff of dreams. They are design-perfect, obvious and effective: a must have! When Apple© launches a new product, it quickly becomes the reference in its market.
User friendly. Apple© products are always easy to use. They are a model of ergonomics and simplicity.
The epitome of cool. Apple© breaks the rules. Including when it comes to management and communication. When Steve Jobs presents the Apple© results in jeans and a casual shirt, he is clearly saying that you can combine performance with a relaxed approach.

Lego©: combining simplicity and creativity

The famous Danish building brick is for us a model of simplicity. Using basic pieces you can build your own world, just as it is in your dreams. At Lego©, maximum simplicity equals maximum creativity!

Our takeaway from Lego©:
Simplicity as an ethic. Always look to pare down, to simplify, to remain true to maintaining the original truth;
An appetite for fun. Playing is a blend of inventiveness and pleasure. There is nothing better for tapping into all one's abilities. Especially when it comes to learning;
Modularity. If you choose the basic pieces well, you have an infinite number of construction solutions: bridges, castles, ships, lorries! Our solutions are built in the same way.
Sticking power. The little blue or red brick has just celebrated its 50-year anniversary but it not a wrinkle in sight. We would like to do the same...

Patagonia©: a company it is fun and fulfilling to work for

What we love about this company is its authenticity. Its founder, Yvon Chouinard, built it on some powerful, original values. This coherence makes it a company with a solid image and one where it is fun and fulfilling to work.

Our takeaway from Patagonia©:
Faithfulness to strong values. A company needs to give some meaning to what it does. Making a profit is not sufficient to motivate people and encourage them to give of their best.
A sense of respect. A value to be applied without moderation: respect for work well done, respect for the client, respect for employees, respect for the environment...

How we got started...

From the original Starting Three to today's YES:

Flashback to 2007. Stylianos Antalis, YES Chief Executive Officer has worked in English-language professional training for the past fifteen years. He was Regional Corporate Director for one of the big players in the sector. His career has given him the opportunity to learn several foreign languages. Born in Greece, he grew up in the United States before returning to his home country in the 1980s. He then marries a French woman and follows her back to live in France. He tells us why he created YES.

Our aim is to develop teams and tools capable of providing a real response to business needs. Stylianos Antalis, Chief Executive Officer

YES was born of this dual professional and personal experience. In late 2007, Stylianos decides to set up his own company or rather to create a new training concept. He imagines an effective, fun way to learn English. He calls on experts from the educational, marketing, new technology and audiovisual worlds and puts all their skills at the service of an innovative approach to training and its management. He puts the client at the heart of the approach. The company is called YES, which stands for Your English Solution. To check out the customised dimension of this new offer [Concept].

Stylianos starts the company with two partners. His enthusiasm convinces them to join the adventure. Then comes Cormac O'Keeffe, who will become Chief Learning Officer, and Jonas Imer, who will soon become Chief Financial Officer [Team]. Their aim: to become the French then global market leader in B to B English language training within five years.

They are quickly joined by two professionals from the new media. Jérôme Lachaud, who has directed numerous internet projects, becomes Director of New Technology ; Nicolas Chalons, creative director in a communication agency, becomes Director of Marketing. In additional to his marketing functions, he designs YES's audiovisual materials and graphics.

The project soon attracts investors. A first line-up assembled under the aegis of Compagnie Financière de Rothschild provides YES with the capital it needs for the start up.

One year later, YES has made a name for itself

Just one year after its first steps, YES has attracted more than 70 clients. Amongst them are major brands like MasterCard, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, L'Oréal PP and Ventes Privées [Client references].

YES currently has around forty employees [Recruitment].

Its revenues have exceeded the target in the business plan by some 20%.

After Paris, the company has opened offices in Lyon and Aix-en-Povence.

To date, YES has operations in three countries outside France: Switzerland, Germany and Austria. And five other licences should be signed between now and the end of 2009 [International].

YES - Your English Solution raises 2 million euros during its second investment pool with CM-CIC Capital Privé

Paris, 18 November 2009, YES - Your English Solution, specialist in delivering English language training to companies, finished its second investment pool for 2 million euros with the investment fund CM-CIC Capital Privé. This second fund-raising aims to reinforce YES's existing products and services as well as developing its sales and marketing departments.

Founded in 2007, YES - Your English Solution provides businesses an original and proven system for learning English. With an approach completely in sync with the needs and flow of businesses everywhere, YES - Your English Solution has developed a language-learning method centred on mastering the key skills required in business environments. This method is based on the recommendations as set out in the EU's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or CEFR.

By participating in this CM-CIC Capital Privé recognises the relevance, value and expertise that are unique to YES. "YES - Your English Solution is a young sapling that has the "DNA" required to make language-learning innovative. Our confidence in YES's management and its highly motivated and skilled team has motivated our decision to accompany the development of this company with high potential," said François Lory of CM-CIC Capital Privé.

'CM-CIC Captial Privé's decision to invest is vote of confidence in YES - Your English Solution's strategy. This investment pool will allow us to continue our development and establish an international presence,' stated Stylianos Antalis, CEO of YES - Your English Solution.

Already present in France and Europe (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) this investment will give YES - Your English Solution the opportunity to add to its client portfolio, consolidate its presence on the market and assist its international development.

About YES - Your English Solution www.yourenglishsolution.com

Created in 2007 by three managers with very different origins (Greek-American, Danish and Irish-Australian) and professional backgrounds, YES - Your English Solution is a French company with a multicultural accent. The management team's blend of skills and experience has been one of the key factors which has allowed YES - Your English Solution to create an English-language method which is both innovative and well-adapted to the needs of today's businesses.

YES - Your English Solution's method, based on educationally sound principles and practices, allows the acquisition of skills found in business environments by using tools that favour memorisation (e-learning, microlearning, face to face and voice to voice sessions) as well as the user-friendly use of modern and exclusive content.

As a result, YES - Your English Solution is able to supply solutions well adapted to companies expecting real results when it comes to learning English.

In order to develop its method YES - Your English Solution followed the recommendations as set out in the EU's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or CEFR. This framework, developed and written under the guidance of the Council of Europe provides an effective tool for establishing readily comprehensible standards to be achieved at successive stages of learning and for evaluating outcomes in an internationally comparable manner.
